You have .. at the start of the cookie domain, not just one .

Actually i had this problem when moving my forum from /forum to root.

When i edited settings.php it always went back to its previous state 5-10 mins later. I found out that if you cannot edit in acp you have to edit settings.php and then go to database and edit one of the tables. Cant remember right now. Will edit later.

No, you just need to make the changes in the ACP once you edit the file...
