RE: iPhone 3gs any got it here?
I remember seeing a benchmark of the 3G and Wifi comparing the 3G and the 3GS, there wasn't a significant increase overall.

I own the 3G, and all I can say is that I regret not waiting another month for the 3GS after all the talk I've heard about speed increases in booting the phone and app start up/general running.
But at the time they hadn't really confirmed any new hardware and I got quite a good deal so I can't complain too much.

Have you owned an iPhone at all in the past? Used one?

Is long battery life with a decent amount of usage important to you? If you use your phone quite a lot and don't charge your phone at least every day you will not be able to use the iPhone, at least not in my experience.
While the 3GS is meant to be faster and such, I'm guessing that it uses more battery to be faster, and even if they increased the battery from the 3G, it probably wouldn't equate to much when you add the speed. I've heard people with the 3GS saying that they have lightly used their phone and about 8 hours later it was at 60% (down from 100%).

Turning off push notifications and turning the brightness down help a bit. GPS kills it (but I would say that it's the fact that the screen is lit up as opposed to GPS/3G connection).

Apart from that, the features are fine, things work the way you would expect but you always get the feeling that there could be a bit more, but it still works just great.

Don't get me wrong here, I love my phone. I just don't want you to go into this blind so I'm telling you the flaws I can think of.

Oh and if you do buy one, make sure you buy a full body cover. I've got a clear cover that sits tightly around the entire phone. Makes me far more comfortable about putting my phone down on rough surfaces. Smile

Thank you Ryan Loos Smile

The main thing that is making me unsure is its worth the $929AUD (prepaid) as that some people have had cracking issues and overheating. as theirs no apple store here so they would have to send it away if it stuff up.

As long as it's under warranty and there are no signs of foul play the cost to ship it away should not cost you anything.

I have heard about the overheating but I believe there is a warning screen that is displayed if it gets too hot.

It is a lot of money to fork out. You don't want to get it on a cap plan? I found it to be better value, but then I am stuck in a contract for 24 months.

Also, any other phones you have in mind?

A friend has one, being a phone, it's horrible. Dropping calls, hard to text, etc. But they said it's the best for the apps, and music. I'm planning on getting an iPod Touch sometime, might be waiting for the 3rd gen to come out though. Only a couple months.

Dropping calls would be the service provider's fault - or that stupid thing that only happens in the US (or at least not in Australia) where the iPhone can't decide whether or not to connect to Edge or 3G - or however it works.

I've had no calls dropping. Granted it is sometimes hard to type, especially when tired or intoxicated. It is something that grows on you though.
