RE: The PHP4/5 Debate
Thanks for your input guys. I appreciate it. I think I'll learn a bit more about PHP5's capabilities & new features/functions.
Best Regards.

RE: The PHP4/5 Debate
5.2.6 on my server run from home.

If needed I *could* set up PHP 4 as CGI (continue to use PHP 5 as an apache module).

RE: The PHP4/5 Debate
I would say 5 because it is more modern and can do more. I can't find a host that still only offers PHP 4

An error has occured...

RE: The PHP4/5 Debate
Nowadays most of the host offer PHP5, PHP4 is really primitive.

If the official PHP team and also MyBB like many other drop support for PHP4, why don't you?

RE: The PHP4/5 Debate
Just out of interest, why would anyone run or develop for PHP 4 anyway? It's kind of like making programs specifically for windows 95?

I'd like too. The thing is, I'm developing some commercial software. If hosts are running PHP4, then if I develop it in PHP5 it would be a big waste of time. However, since everyone's feedback & my search at hosting companies, it seems as if they nearly all upgraded to PHP5 and still offer PHP4 as an option. Another problem with PHP4 is, some development techniques in it won't be compatible with PHP5, it's definitely a hard decision to make. However, I think I've made up my mind; PHP 5.2+ all the way! Big Grin
