Oh that's my job. I am the Mybb hitman. I find places I can infiltrate...push out mybb and slam other forum softwares.

This post will self-destruct in 10 seconds.

Toungue

Seriously...I am part of every major webmaster community and speak of mybb constantly. Recently had a great discussion on DP and the virtues of mybb over SMF and phpbb.

What is that supposed to mean?

Calm down. Smile

There is a ton missed. Not here but elsewhere. One such place YOU do visit and make corrections when need be.

Point is doing it all as a team. I believe you recall a situation elsewhere a week or two ago with them rats from phpbb. Sorry but all of you guys should be making the case for this software when bs is spouted like that. No i am not suggesting getting into a bloody war. Just saying you all would be better served doing as a number of the other development teams do when the subject of this software is mentioned. Pointing out it's benifits and such. This software is LIGHTYEARS ahead of all the rest of the free guys and it deserves it's dues and the only way that happens is if you guys are there to speak in behalf of MYBB whenever it is mentioned.

Granted i see you guys are a little short with help right now too. So yes i know you all cant be everywhere either. Hopefully it can be addressed once you all have a bigger team.

I am calm, but maybe you should take a leaf out of your own book sometimes in that regard (Thinking of past discussions at TAZ with other people...)

Right, we do point out misinformation and help out where we can but there is no reason why we should be anymore qualified then anyone else to provide information and give answers. 99% of all the information available on MyBB is in the source code and here, which is freely available.

RE: The community activity here.
I think mybb team has better things to do than troll other forums looking to defend mybb.

Again...that's my job. Smile

Not sure about vB, but when IPB first came out there was statements being made about it forever being free, we all know how long that lasted!!

Not really "free for ever". Matt said version 2 would be free, and indeed, 2.0 was free - if you were quick enough to get to it. Version 1 still is legal to run, so it isn't as if he lied - he just said from now on you have to pay for it. Most companies do something for the purpose of making money.

Anyway, IPB has the purpose of a community suite (their own propaganda), and it is. Forum, Gallery and Blog components is a community suite. vB... well I've never taken too much interest in it as I always found it crap to use, so I can't say much. But as an advanced piece of forum software, well it is an advanced forum software.

Designed for purpose Toungue

Oh no. Way before that Matt had stated IPB would ALWAYS be free. That was one of his reasons he gave as to why he left IBB. Which was because they wanted to go commerical. Which yes i find very hard to believe because of what did eventually happen with IPB.
Yes i have been around forever and a day.

Anyways i think part of the problem here is with others ripping this software elsewhere and only made worse because the developers here ( unlike the others ) dont get involved even though i believe they should. oh well.

Thanks Harry for explaining this, being one of the first to ever download/use IPB I remember that "free forever" statement very well from the creator.

As for the so called "free IPB" versions out there, AFAIK they are free to still use if they were downloaded/used at that time and are still used, but they aren't free to download nowadays, downloading them now would be illegal!
