Is there an easy way to track the threads we participated in (when checking our user control panel), even if we did not subscribe to the thread?
If 'Yes':
Please, tell me how.
If 'No':
This would be huge improvement for end users.
Edit for clarity: This would be the same as an automatic subscription to every thread we post in. Then the end user can always 'unsubscribe' if they want to.
Thank you very much.
No there isn't, I think. But you could use the 'view all threads' link at your profile.
Go to the forum search, enter in your username on the right side, but keep the Keyword box blank. At the bottom make sure "threads" is selected, and perform the search.
You should get a list of threads you've posted in.

Thanks, I hadn't noticed that before (I didn't go past the user_cp)

- Your suggestion covers all the threads we (I) started, which helps some.
- 'Auto-subscribe when participating' would be a nice feature if it's ever possible
Thanks again

I'm trying really hard to avoid the phrase "but VB does it"
- MyBB is clearly the best free forum, no doubt in my mind
- I'm looking for something which is 'automatic' for the end users
- Your advice did help

There is a setting in the User CP which will, when enabled, automatically subscribe users to threads when they post in them.
User CP -> Edit Options -> Automatically subscribe to threads you post in.
I used that at one point (I think) for a forum section on these Community forums (or was it the Mods one?) and started receiving loads of emails ^^; useful but must use it carefully~
The favourite threads feature will allow you to subscribe to threads without being emailed when the thread is updated. However, you can't automatically add threads to your favourites list when you reply to a thread. You need to add the thread manually.
In MyBB 1.4, the subscriptions system has been significantly improved. The subscriptions system and favourite threads features have essentially merged together. You'll still be able to subscribe to threads automatically, but you can choose whether or not emails are sent out when a thread to which you're subscribed is updated.
More information on the new feature is available on Chris Boulton's blog:

This is perfect.
Is there a (possible) release date for 1.4?
